Location : Powhatan, VA
Requirements : M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related/equivalent + 2 years experience as Chief Engineer, Tech Director or related in the net weight filling equipment industry. (Or BS + 5 yrs. exp.).

Responsibilities :

Oversee engineering/technical project proposals and consulting; participate in business planning, departmental model setup, and knowledge base setup. Oversee effective resource allocation for activities and projects, justify proposals for expenditure on project, negotiate and agree on budgets. Establish strategies and procedures to guide the work and direction of the engineering team and contractors, in harmony with the overall corporate strategy and goals. Direct engineering support during the construction phase of the major capital improvement projects. Provide strategic technical direction and engineering expertise in capital improvement projects. Lead research and development projects to produce new products, processes or designs; oversee the creation of detailed plans for the development of new products and designs. Direct,
review, and approve project design, drawings and plans. Develop policies and procedures for engineering and technical work; define company-wide engineering design and technical standards. In coordination with the CEO and other managers, define high level technical/engineering strategy; Identify and prioritize projects and/or primary tracks of work and translate into long-term implementation plan. Oversee engineering and technical operations to ensure production efficiency, quality, service and cost-effective management of resources. Apply knowledge of packaging equipment such as net weight fillers, rotary fillers, electronic cappers and rinsers to the design, production and operation of the equipment. Oversee fulfillment of parts orders from third-party parts suppliers. Manage quality control assessments of parts shipments from third-party suppliers. Evaluate and improve organizational performance of engineering/technical department by developing measures and criteria to evaluate performance. Oversee resource rotation and forecast planning, as well as analyze and plan project budget and costs for engineering/technical department. Set long-term and short-term goals for engineering and production projects and operations, in collaboration with other Sr. management based on analyses. Evaluate performance of engineering and mechanical teams for compliance with established policies and objectives of the company and contributions in attaining objectives. Define production standards, approve production plans and layouts. Approve proposed changes in assembly or layout plans. Provide financial guidance and analysis of Weightpack’s service offerings as related to engineering and production function, in collaboration with senior financial management.
